Turn 2
Things just got worse for the Anglo-Egyptian forces as
the Western Sudan revolts. Dara fell with no fight as the 1st
Egyptian commander had ordered his regiment to join up in El Fasher the
previous turn and was undefended. Luckly the 1st Egyptian Regiment
survives the uprising and is under siege in El Fasher. Unfortunately the IX
Sudanese Regiment at El Obeid did not survive.
Again it is assumed that these old soldiers just joined the ranks of the
Mahdi so they could live another day.
In the south the 2nd Egyptian at Renk
continues its march to Kosti with urgency to begin building a relief
force. General Gordon orders the Ruby T
to move south to Kosti loaded with the 1st Egyptian Cavalry Squadron
and the 2nd Camel Squadron. This will be the beginning of a force to
take back El Obeid.
In the East, elements of the 3rd Egyptian
receive orders to begin marching to Atbara as they advance to the River Atbara
way point. All other forces remain in place hoping for more reinforcements from
India. The 2nd Egyptian Cavalry Squadron and the 2nd
Egyptian Gendarme continue the slow march to Atbara arriving at the well of
Shediyeb.
In the north there is some movement. The Xth and IXth
Sudanese regiments along with the 2nd Infantry Brigade Command
advances to Wadi Halfa relieving the siege there. This force will soon begin marching south to
take back Dongola. With several turns of
supplies at both Berber and Atbara no activity is seen from these forces as
they continue to be under siege.
The supply situation here is still in good shape as the
locals had just finished the harvest. Berber drops from 7 turns to 6. Atbara drops
from 5 to 4, but help is on the way. The 1st Egyptian Regiment must
have been hoarding supplies as they end up with 5 turns worth of supplies. This gives them plenty of time to either wait
for rescue or break out.
Reinforcements are slow to arrive at the front as only 2
units arrive at Aswan. No units arrive
from India at Suakin.
At Aswan the following arrive:
British 1st Infantry Brigade Commander
1st Battalion 75th Gordon
Highlanders
The remaining sections of the 6th Egyptian
Artillery
Closing out the turn the revolt index in the West goes up
by 2 as El Obeid and Dara fell to 4. The North goes up by 1 to 6. The East stays the same at 3. But in the
South the index goes up by 1 to 5. The
Mahdist gains 32 points this turn for a total of 47 points.
